Jesus.
Just a moment with You. Just to sit with You, Jesus, just to set my heavy burdens and my chaos down at Your feet and look into Your eyes, to look Love in the eyes and know that Love sees it all…sees all of me…and meets me here, despite it all.
Here…
Where the Water quenches.
Where my parched soul is satisfied.
Where I drink of Life to the fullest, Life to the deepest.
Where Life is restored, renewed.
You say “Be still, and know that I am God…” Psalm 46:10
And…my striving ceases, and I know that You are God. Because I see You with the eyes of my heart and You see me and despite my bitter heart, my senseless words, my ignorance…of Who You truly are…of how utterly Holy You are…DESPITE my ignorance of the cost You paid to have me sitting here with You…despite my beastliness to Your image~bearers…(including myself)…You meet me here and tell me to draw of Your Living Water.
When my heart was embittered
And I was pierced within,
Then I was senseless and ignorant;
I was like a beast before You.
Nevertheless I am continually with You;
You have taken hold of my right hand.
With Your counsel You will guide me,
And afterward receive me to glory.
Whom have I in heaven but You?
And besides You, I desire nothing on earth.
My flesh and my heart may fail,
But God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.
(How can this be?? Such a great, unfathomable love.)
And You “…wash me by the cleansing of Your Word…” (Ephesians 5:26)
Jesus…let Your Truth~soaked, Living~Well Water penetrate to my core. Wash me by the cleansing of Your Word. Wash me with Your Truth. The truth that You love me despite all I’ve done and still do. The truth that You came for the lost, the broken, that You came not for the perfect but for the imperfect, ugly messes.
The truth that You sit at the well and talk to the unworthy ones. The outcasts. The unlovable ones.
Jesus.
Soak into my entire being.
Saturate my soul.
Your Spirit is a well of water within me, springing up to eternal life.
“but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him shall never thirst; but the water that I will give him will become in him a well of water springing up to eternal life.” John 4:14
I sing to You, Jesus, and say…“All my springs of joy are in you.” (Psalm 87:7b)
I sing to You alone and say…
“How precious is Your lovingkindness, O God! (I)… take refuge in the shadow of Your wings. (I) drink (my) fill of the abundance of Your house; and You give (me) to drink of the river of Your delights. For with You is the fountain of life; in Your light (I) see light.” (Psalm 36:7-9…I changed the words in the parentheses to make it personal!)
Jesus, I drink deeply of the river of Your delights!! I dive in and I’m saturated in Your river.
“My soul is satisfied as with marrow and fatness, and my mouth offers praises with joyful lips.” (Psalm 63:5)
YOU…only YOU…are the fountain of Life.
You are my Peace. My Joy. My Delight.
In Your light we see Light.
In your eyes we see Love.
(Do I look at people with eyes of love? Give me Your eyes, Jesus!! Give me Your heart.)
So, I sit, I soak You in. I soak in You.
I dig deep into Your Word and know that You promise that “You will seek Me and FIND ME when you search for Me with ALL your heart.” (Jeremiah 29:13)
I seek You, Lord. All of my heart seeks You.
Let me find You…here, in the quiet…when I’m sitting at Your well…at Your feet…
And let me find you in the chaos and the noise.
Teach my heart to be still before You and find You even when everything else is madness. Even when the wheels fall off.
“Teach me Your way, O LORD; I will walk in Your truth; Unite my heart to fear Your name.” (Psalm 86:11)
God, You keep Your promises. You are Faithful and True. I come to You expectantly, Lord. I come thirsting for You alone.
Thank You for quenching my soul with Your Living Water…with Your Living Word…with Your LIVING SON.
Thank You for replacing my chaos and anxiety with Your Peace.
You tell me to “Be still, and know that (YOU) are God…” so help me when my heart becomes restless again. Because it’s my heart that needs to learn to be still and trust You. Unite my heart to fear Your name.
Father, thank You for Your great patience with me and for Your kindness towards me. Thank You, Jesus, for being my source of joy!! Thank You for the Living Water that is Your Spirit living in me. Thank You for Your immeasurable grace, for Your friendship, for Your guidance. Guide me through this day as I leave our quiet space and let Your joy spill out of me to the world around me.
Blessings,
~Nicole
“Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you, with all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God. Whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through Him to God the Father.” (Colossians 3:16-17)
