The Way to “Be Still”…

“Be still and know that I am God…” Psalm 46:10

Easier said than done, this “being still.” It goes against our human nature.
We worry, we wonder. Our mind runs circles around itself. We run through what-ifs and hows and plans over and over again. Our hearts are anxious. Lies plague us. Fears consume us.

These two words, “be still”~here’s what they mean in this verse:

to let drop, abandon, relax, refrain, forsake

to let go

to refrain, let alone

to be quiet.

The word “know” is one of my favorite Hebrew words-Yada`.
Here’s what it means~

-to know by experience

-to recognize, admit, acknowledge, confess

-to consider

-to know, be acquainted with

It also means…to be made known, to be or become known, to be revealed.

The more we seek the Lord, the longer we walk with Him, the more we lean into Him during hard times, the better we will know Him by experience because He is happy to reveal who He is to us. It’s who He is, it’s what He does.

There are so many different reasons that I know that I need to “be still”, things that I need to “let go of, abandon, relax, refrain from, or forsake.”

So,

Be still, worried mind, He’s in control.
Abandon your cares at His feet. Let go of wanting to control the outcome.

Be still, anxious heart, He is your Peace.
Relax and let Him fill you with it.

Be still, in the unknown. He’s all-knowing.
Rest in His plan & forsake the idea of what you think things should look like.

Be still, in your hurt and your pain. He is your Healer.
Let Him bind up your wounds. Refrain from escaping the pain and let Him heal you.

Be still, in your loneliness. He is with you.
Lean into His Presence. Stop trying to fill every moment with busyness and embrace stillness in His Presence.

Be still, in your sadness. He’s your source of joy.
Look to Him, He’ll fill you with it. Abandon the urge to seek temporary happiness.

Be still, when you’ve been wronged. He’s your Protector.
He will fight for you. Let go of the urge to defend yourself.

Be still, in the night. He’s your rest.
He sings over you.

Be still, in the lies. He is Truth.
He’ll make things clear to you.

Be still, when it feels dark. He is Light.
He’ll turn your night into the brightest day.

Be still and know WHO God is.
Yada` who He is.

We can only truly “be still” and let go or abandon what we’re not meant to hold on to when we know His character and trust Him by walking with Him through good times and hard times.
By experiencing Him. By His revelation of Himself to us in His word.

So,
Keep seeking.
Keep pressing in.
Keep trusting.
Keep opening the Word of God and looking for who He’s told us He is.

Be still and know that He is God, our everything. We can trust Him enough to let go, and in the letting go our mind is free to be still & rest in Him.❤️
