What the Trees Teach Us About Waiting & the Winter Season

There’s something majestic & beautiful about the trees standing bare, stripped of all their color & beauty.

They teach us about seasons.

They stand tall, strong, firmly rooted to their source of life, yet not showing all the evidence of it yet.

Where there once was evidence of life, they now appear to be stripped of the beauty of it.

But the beauty is just in a waiting season.
The beauty is there…fully alive on the inside…life is still coursing strong through their veins.

In the spring, they were covered in buds, the promise of new life & new beginnings.

In the summer, they were cloaked in a rich covering of green, fully expressing their life at its fullest.

In the fall, they were robed in gold, scarlett, amber…majestically boasting that the waiting and barren season will burst forth with beauty in due time. Boasting of the Master Artist whose work is ever changing and beautiful…yet consistent & faithful.

The trees that look so dead right now are beautiful to me. Because they’re still screaming life to me in the midst of their dry & waiting season. They’re telling me to just wait on the Artist as He paints the next season.

They show us that the beauty can be stripped away… but it will most certainly return. Like it always does.

It will return in full force, showing evidence that the Creator is faithful and life-giving.

That even when things appear lifeless, He’s still working to bring forth new & beautiful things. Even when we can’t see it. Or feel it.

If the trees could share their story with us… and they do in their own way… they would say that all we need to do is remain rooted in Christ…our source of life.

He’s working on a masterpiece that will be evidence of His faithfulness to the world around us, in His perfect timing.

So don’t fear the waiting. Don’t worry when things don’t look like you want them to.

Focus on the life that is coursing through you… focus on the Life-giver and trust that in due time, you’ll see the evidence of His work while you were waiting in the winter season.

I remain confident of this: I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.
Psalms 27:13‭-‬14
