I sit and watch as beautiful pastel colors seep and blend into the canvas of the dark morning sky, like watercolors spilling onto a blank piece of paper, and I think about the blank canvas of this new day.
And I wonder what the Master Artist envisions for me today. For my children, for the people I love. As colors change and paint the morning sky, I begin to think about the colors that He might be offering us to paint this new day with, the colors of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness & self-control.
I wonder what my day will look like if I set my mind to choose from this palette when the time comes to choose. Because there will be a time to choose, many times throughout this day.
I think about the dark colors that I sometimes paint my day with…selfish ambition, bitterness, fear, anxiety, frustration…I think about how difficult it is to switch palettes once these colors start taking over.
I’m also quietly reminded, though, that I just sat here and watched the morning light chase away the darkness of the night. I’m quietly reminded of how His Light so often has scattered the darkness inside of me when I decide to cry out to the Master Artist for His help. For His Light.
We all have a blank canvas today, and we get to choose, at so many different times today, which colors we will use to paint our day.
So what do you want your day to look like today? What does the Painter of Sunrises and Sunsets see for you today? Talk with Him, and ask Him to help you make today look like something beautiful.
And remember that, if the darker colors start making their way into your day, there is One you can turn to who will chase your darkness away with a word. He wants only the most beautiful colors to paint our days if only we will choose the ones He’s offering us.
The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. John 1:5
This is the message we have heard from Him and declare to you: God is light; in Him there is no darkness at all. If we claim to have fellowship with Him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth. But if we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin. 1 John 1:5-7
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Against such things, there is no law. Galatians 5:22-23

Love the thoughts and imagery. Sunrise is by far my favorite time to be with God and see the beauty of a fresh new day starting. Amen!
